My tile collections are inspired by my Dutch heritage and traditional delftware, whilst also reflecting a contemporary feminist perspective, with a focus on the celebration of female sensuality through the female gaze. I grew up in a home filled with beautiful objects, paintings and inherited delft tile murals grouted into the kitchen splash back and bathroom walls. Consequently, the iconic blue and white palette has been present in my practice for years, but it was only after losing my studio in the pandemic that I traded in my large scale paintings and began reimagining the humble tile for a modern audience. Painting on a small scale allows me to focus on gestural and expressive lines that capture the beauty of the female form. My work is also deeply romantic, often referencing floral imagery, flowers, and plants native to Britain. All my tiles are meticulously hand painted, glazed and fired in London, and I purposefully only work on small collections and limited edition pre-orders. I am an artist, not a machine, and working on this level ensures that each artwork is made with love and serves as a statement on the value and uniqueness of handcrafted objects. I hope that my tiles bring joy and inspiration to those who see them, and that they remind the viewer of the beauty and power of women.
